Have you ever wondered about the parts of a padel court and the role each plays in the game? Understanding each part of the court is crucial as it allows us to locate and visualize them when mentioned, making it easier to grasp the game's rules and their function within each match's dynamics.
- Court characteristics: The playing area of a padel court is a rectangle measuring 10 meters wide by 20 meters long. This rectangle is divided in half by a net that separates two playing areas, each forming a perfect square of 10x10 meters.
- The padel court net: The net must be 10 meters long and 0.88 meters high in the center, with the possibility of rising to a maximum of 0.92 meters at the ends.It is made of synthetic fiber threads with a spacing small enough to prevent the ball from passing through. The net has a white folded band at the top, containing a metal cable attached to two side posts up to 1.05 meters high, allowing the net to be suspended and occupy all the space between the posts and the court surface.
- Court floor characteristics: The court surface can be porous concrete, cement, synthetic materials, or artificial grass, as long as it allows for a regular bounce of the ball. The introduction of short artificial grass revolutionized the sport by providing physical safety to players and a very regular bounce of the ball. Padel artificial grass consists of polyethylene fibers tufted onto a backing with a polyurethane or latex layer as adhesive. The filling and ballasting with silica sand improve the grass's stability, creating a more uniform playing surface.
- Side and back walls: The presence of vertical walls that delimit the playing field in height is a distinctive feature of padel. The back and side walls can be made of transparent or opaque materials and metallic mesh, combining areas of regular bounce with areas of irregular bounce.
- Court Lighting: Lighting is crucial for nighttime or indoor play and must ensure good visibility of all the court elements, players, and ball, complying with the UNE-EN 12193 standard for Sports Facility Lighting.
